Ergonomics (Product description and Idea Trigger)

It has a nice black and one, taichi- like appearance which is used as a door stopper to prevent door from closing by itself. The rubber material and ability to prevent door to close by itself was taken into consideration. However, an elderly may face difficulties using this product as the elderly have to bend her/his back more than 90 degree just to fit the door stopper. I think a removable rubber handle should be connected to the white round screw-like thing so the elderly can fit the stopper at the gap under the door without having to bend down.

Ergonomics II

Q1. What is Ergonomics?
The science of designing a workplace, job, equipment, to suit the user and make it feel comfortable.Q2. What are the 5 aspects of Ergonomics?

The 5 aspects are aesthetics, comfort, safety, ease of use and productivity.

Q3. For each aspects of Ergonomics, explain with an example of a product that is designed for the elderly, how the product meet that particular aspect of Ergonomics.

Aesthetics -> Usage and contrast of color of a object. It brightens up

Comfort -> Chairs with a cushion back-rest. It enable the user the lay back to rest comfortably.
Safety -> Water bottles with rubber pieces on the sides. It prevents the user from slipping the water bottle off his/her sweaty palms.
Ease of use -> The size and color of the font of objects. It enable the user to see clearer and the user don't have to strain their eyes.

Productivity -> Round edges of tables and chairs. It is to prevent the user from hurting themselves by the sharp edges.

Ergonomics I

The above shows 2 different setup of a workplace:

Q1. Compare the 2 different workplaces, state your observations.

A1. Both of them are similar but the one on the left is slightly messier compared to the one on the right. The furniture on the left seemed to be more cheaper, not as elegant as the one on the right.

Q2. Which workplace is preferred? State with reasons why one workplace is preferred over the other.

A2. The workplace on the right is preferred. The workplace on the right have a liberty chair, which make their life when they are working very comfortable. The angle of the computer is also correct and the distance of the computer from the keyboard is suitable for the employee which prevents the employee from straining their eyes.

Q3. What are the considerations that should be taken into account when designing a workplace that is suitable for the user?

A3. C0mfort, simplicity, height, depth, task lighting, movement and usable desk space should be taken into consideration when designing a workplace that is suitable for the user.

Q4. Why do you think that Ergonomics is important when designing?

A4. Ergonomics is important when designing because it can affect one's feeling, ability to concentrate, focus, emotions, etc. It will give the person a 'head start' when working, studying, etc.
